Gail Folwell uses her appreciation of sports and anatomy to sculpt her athletes. She expresses energy and excitement with abstracted figurative forms in mid-motion. Whether a baseball pitcher captured right after the release of the ball; a swimmer mid-stroke or the collision of two hockey players, Folwell’s interpretation of the competitive athlete is simultaneously contemplative and exciting.
Folwell has exhibited at NAMOS, won a NAMOS Gold Medal in the annual, international “Commitment to Excellence in Art & Sport: A Fine Art Competition”, and has had large public commissions of her athletes in Vail and at the Denver Art Museum, University of South Alabama, Bowling Green State University, and Dr. Pepper Ballpark. She is working on a public commission for the Pro Football Hall of Fame and Canton, Ohio.
